ViewSonic VA2456A-MHD 24" Black 2024

The ViewSonic VA2456A-MHD is a budget 24-inch office monitor that stands out with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and FreeSync support. It's perfect for work and casual gaming, but the color accuracy and brightness are weak points. At around $110 from reputable sellers, it's a fantastic deal for anyone prioritizing motion clarity over image quality.

Out of the box, the 120Hz refresh rate is the star of the show. Scrolling through long web pages and documents feels buttery smooth, and it makes the whole Windows experience feel more responsive. For gaming, FreeSync Premium keeps things tear-free, and the 1ms MPRT response time means you won't see much ghosting in faster titles. In our database, the overall performance lands in the 63rd percentile, which is solid for a budget office monitor but nothing to write home about compared to dedicated gaming displays.

The 250-nit brightness is adequate for a typical indoor office but can feel a bit dim if you have a window right behind you. Color coverage is where this panel shows its budget roots, sitting in the 20th percentile. It's an 8-bit panel covering 16.7 million colors, so it's fine for productivity and web browsing, but don't expect to do any color-critical photo editing. The contrast is typical for an IPS panel, meaning blacks look more like dark gray in a dim room. For the price, the motion clarity is the real win here.

Stacked against the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL5A or the LG UltraGear 27GX790A-B, the ViewSonic is clearly outgunned. Those are larger, higher-resolution gaming monitors with better color and HDR support, but they also cost significantly more. The Dell S2725QC is a 4K office monitor that will look much sharper for text but runs at a standard 60Hz, so it feels sluggish next to the ViewSonic's 120Hz. The Acer Nitro XV272U W2bmiiprx is a closer competitor, offering a 1440p resolution at a higher refresh rate, but again, it commands a higher price. If your budget is tight and you want that high refresh rate for mixed use, the ViewSonic undercuts them all while still delivering a smooth experience. You're giving up resolution and color performance, but you're not paying for them either.

Value is where this monitor gets interesting and a little weird. We tracked prices from $110 all the way up to a laughable $3005. Ignore the scalpers. If you snag this from Amazon or Newegg near that $110 mark, it's a steal. You're getting a 120Hz IPS panel with good connectivity for less than many basic 60Hz office monitors. The built-in speakers and headphone jack add a bit of convenience, even if the speakers are pretty bad. Compared to alternatives like a basic Dell 24-inch office monitor, you're trading color accuracy for speed, and for most people, that's a trade worth making at this price.

The ViewSonic VA2456A-MHD is one of those monitors that sneaks up on you. On paper, a 24-inch 1080p IPS panel for office work sounds about as exciting as a spreadsheet. But then you notice the 120Hz refresh rate and FreeSync Premium support, and suddenly this budget-friendly display starts looking like a sneaky good option for after-hours gaming too. It's aimed squarely at home office users who want something smooth and easy on the eyes without spending a fortune.

ViewSonic packed in their Eye ProTech+ technology to reduce flicker and blue light, which is a genuine plus if you're staring at code or documents all day. The 1ms MPRT response time keeps motion crisp, and the IPS panel means colors don't wash out when you slouch to the side. Connectivity is a strong point here, with HDMI, DisplayPort, and even a legacy VGA port, plus built-in speakers and a headphone jack. It's not going to blow anyone away with HDR brilliance, but for a no-nonsense workhorse that can double as a casual gaming screen, it checks a lot of boxes.

We see the price bouncing around between $110 and over $3000 depending on the seller, which is frankly absurd. The real-world price from reputable retailers like Amazon and Newegg lands much closer to that $110 mark, making this a budget contender. If you're searching for an affordable 24-inch monitor with a high refresh rate that won't make your eyes bleed after an 8-hour shift, the VA2456A-MHD deserves a spot on your shortlist.

Skip this monitor if color accuracy matters to you at all. Photographers, video editors, and graphic designers will find the 20th percentile color performance frustrating. If you work in a very bright room, the 250-nit brightness will feel dim and washed out. You should also look elsewhere if you need a highly adjustable stand out of the box, as this one only tilts. For better color and ergonomics, consider spending a bit more on a Dell UltraSharp or a higher-end ASUS ProArt display.

If you need a cheap, fast monitor for a home office that can also handle some casual gaming after hours, the ViewSonic VA2456A-MHD is an easy recommendation. The 120Hz panel is the killer feature here, making daily work feel fluid and giving you a real advantage in faster-paced games. The eye care features are a legitimate benefit for anyone prone to headaches from screen time.

Just know what you're getting into. The colors are mediocre, the stand is basic, and the speakers are a last resort. This is not a monitor for photo editors or anyone who needs accurate color. But for students, remote workers, or anyone building a budget-friendly dual-monitor setup, it's hard to beat the value when you find it at the right price. Buy it for the speed, not the picture quality.
