Performance
Let's talk numbers. The ANC and mic quality are genuine standouts here, both landing in the top 10% of all earbuds we've tested. Call clarity is crisp, and the noise cancelling does a solid job of muting the subway rumble. Battery life is another chart-topper, delivering up to 12 hours in the buds and another 36 in the case, which is best-in-class endurance. The 10mm drivers pump out that signature JBL bass, which is fun and energetic, though the overall sound profile sits in the middle of the pack for detail. The real low point is comfort, which ranks in the bottom third. You can have all the audio tech in the world, but it doesn't mean much if you're constantly adjusting them or worried they'll pop out.

vs Competition
Stacked against the Sony WF-C700N, the JBLs win on sheer battery stamina and bass impact, but Sony offers a more refined, balanced sound and a universally more secure fit. The Soundcore P31i is another budget brawler that often undercuts the JBLs, but its ANC and call quality can't keep up. If you're eyeing the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro or Google Pixel Buds Pro, you're in a different league of sound fidelity and premium features, but you're also paying double or triple the price. The JBL Tune Buds carve out a niche by giving you flagship-level battery and ANC at a fraction of the cost, as long as you can live with the fit quirks.

Value & Pricing
For the price, which we see hovering between $50 and $100, the value proposition is strong if the buds fit you. You're getting elite-level battery life and noise cancelling that punches way above its price tag. It's a budget-friendly workhorse that out-specs plenty of $150 earbuds in key areas. Just know that the low price does show up in the build quality and the fit isn't as universally secure as something like the Sony WF-C700N. If your ears cooperate, it's a steal.

Overview
JBL's Tune Buds are the kind of earbuds that make you question why you'd spend double on the big-name flagships. You get active noise cancelling, a massive 48-hour total battery life, and that punchy JBL Pure Bass sound in a package that often dips well below a hundred bucks. On paper, it's a killer deal for a daily commuter or anyone who just wants their music to thump without constant charging anxiety.
But there's a catch, and it's a pretty important one. The fit is a real gamble. While the spec sheet boasts an ergonomic design, our data and a wave of user feedback show these can be slippery little things. If they don't sit perfectly in your ears, that great bass and ANC become a moot point. It's a classic case of a product that gets so much right, but stumbles on a fundamental that could be a dealbreaker for a lot of people.
Common Questions
Q: How good is the noise cancelling on the JBL Tune Buds?
It's one of the best features here. Our testing puts the ANC in the top 10% of all earbuds, meaning it's surprisingly effective at blocking out low-end hums like engines and fans for the price.
Q: Will these earbuds stay in my ears during a workout?
Probably not. They have an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, but the fit is a known weak spot. Our data and user reviews show they tend to fall out with a lot of movement, so they're a poor choice for the gym.
Q: Can I use just one earbud at a time?
Yes. Thanks to Bluetooth 5.3, the JBL Tune Buds can stream audio independently to each earbud, so you can use either the left or right one solo without any issues.
Who Should Skip This
If you have smaller ears or have struggled with earbud fit in the past, look elsewhere. The Sony WF-C700N is a much safer bet for a secure, all-day comfortable fit. Gym rats should also skip these, as our fitness score for them is a dismal 32.7 out of 100, meaning they just won't stay put during a run or a HIIT class.
Verdict
The JBL Tune Buds are a fantastic pick for commuters and bass lovers on a budget who prioritize battery life and call quality above all else. They're a workhorse pair of earbuds that will easily get you through a week of commutes on a single case charge. Just be prepared to play the ear-tip lottery to find a secure seal, and don't expect a premium feel in your hands. If you win the fit jackpot, you'll feel like you got away with a minor heist.
