Overzicht
The 30-Second Version
An otherwise reliable budget laptop held back by a display that feels like it time-traveled from 2012. Great battery and snappy touch, but you'll be squinting at a dated, washed-out screen.

De feiten
Performance
The Ryzen 5 7520U surprised me. For web browsing, Google Docs, and Netflix, it never stutters, and the integrated Radeon Graphics handles light photo editing without whining. The real shock isn't the speed - it's how abysmal the display is. With only 62.5% sRGB coverage and 250 nits of brightness, it's one of the worst screens we've ever tested, and trying to work outdoors is a losing battle. The 8GB of LPDDR5 is soldered and can't be upgraded, so heavy multitasking gets tight fast.

vs Competition
The Acer Aspire 5 with a Ryzen 5 7530U and a Full HD 1080p screen sells for around $400 and makes this HP's panel look embarrassing. If you're open to a Chromebook, the Lenovo Flex 5i gives you the same touchscreen flexibility with a sharper display and a better keyboard for similar money. The HP wins on storage and raw Windows flexibility, but only if you can stomach that screen.

Prijs
Value & Pricing
At $379, it's a solid deal if you just need a cheap Windows machine for school. The storage and performance punch above the price tag, and owners rave about the battery. But you're staring at a blurry screen every single day - if you can spend an extra $50, you'll get a much nicer display elsewhere.

Overview
This HP 15.6 inch laptop is the definition of a budget workhorse - it gets the basics surprisingly right for $379, but you'll have to live with a screen that feels ten years old. The touchscreen is snappy, the AMD Ryzen 5 chip keeps things smooth for schoolwork and streaming, and the 512GB SSD is generous at this price. But the moment you open the lid, that 1366x768 panel slaps you in the face with washed-out colors and terrible viewing angles.
Common Questions
Q: Can this laptop run games or edit videos?
Not really. The integrated graphics can only handle very light titles like Minecraft or Stardew Valley on low settings. Video editing with that dim, color-inaccurate 1366x768 screen would be a miserable experience - you'd be better off with even a used MacBook Air.
Q: Is the RAM upgradeable?
Nope. The 8GB of LPDDR5 is soldered to the motherboard, so you're stuck with that forever. If you plan on having tons of browser tabs open, this might get cramped.
Q: How's the battery life in real use?
Multiple owners report getting through a full day of classes and note-taking without scrambling for a charger. Expect around 7-8 hours of mixed use with the screen at a reasonable brightness.
Who Should Skip This
If you care at all about a crisp, vibrant display, look elsewhere. The 1366x768 panel is a dealbreaker for watching movies, editing photos, or even reading long documents comfortably. Grab a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 with a 1080p screen or a used MacBook Air instead.
Verdict
Buy the HP 15-fc0499nr if you're a student on a strict $379 budget and prioritize battery life and a touchscreen over picture quality. It's a dependable homework machine, but know that the display is a compromise you'll notice every time you open it. If you do anything creative or just like crisp text, stretch for a model with a Full HD screen.
