Verdict

With the arrival of the Sigma 16-300mm and the continued strength of the Tamron 18-300mm, this lens no longer enjoys the clear runway it once did. The competition has caught up in range and, in some cases, surpassed it in autofocus speed. It remains a solid performer with excellent stabilization, but the value proposition has shifted. You now have genuinely compelling alternatives that either go wider, focus faster, or cost less. It's still a good lens, but it's no longer the default choice it was a year ago.
