Dell Latitude 14" 7420 Gray 2022

A refurbished business laptop with 32GB of RAM and a touchscreen for under $400? Yeah, that's a steal. Just don't expect to store your whole life on the 256GB SSD.

The i7-1185G7 is a 4-core chip from Intel's 11th gen, and while it's not going to win any rendering contests, it handles demanding tasks like engineering software without breaking a sweat according to multiple owners. The 32GB of LPDDR4X is the real star here, it's well above average for this class and means you can run a dozen browser tabs, Excel, and a VM without hitting swap. The Iris Xe graphics are middle of the pack, fine for video playback and light photo work, but the gaming score of 15.6/100 tells you everything you need to know there. The 256GB SSD is the weak spot, it's small by modern standards and sits near the bottom of our rankings.

Against the Apple MacBook Air M5, the Latitude loses on battery life and screen quality, but it crushes the Air on RAM per dollar and repairability. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x and HP OmniBook X Flip are both newer with better displays and longer battery, but you'll pay significantly more for similar RAM. The ASUS Zenbook UX3405CA and Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 are sleeker and lighter, but again, the Latitude's price-to-RAM ratio is hard to beat. If you need a workhorse for spreadsheets, code, or engineering apps, the Latitude is the value play. If you want a premium screen and all-day battery, look at the MacBook Air or Surface Laptop 7.

The value story here is genuinely impressive. USD listings range from $340 to $665 across five vendors, and the CAD spread is $460 to $665 across two. That's a $325 gap in the US alone, so shop around. The cheapest US listing is the obvious pick if you're stateside, and the lower CAD listing is the one to grab if you're up north. For a machine with 32GB of RAM and a touchscreen, even the high end of that range is reasonable, but there's no reason to pay it when the same config is sitting at the bottom of the range.

The Dell Latitude 7420 is a refurbished business laptop that punches way above its price tag. You're getting an i7-1185G7, 32GB of RAM, and a touchscreen in a 1.31kg chassis, and owners are absolutely loving it. The sentiment score sits at 92/100, which puts it in the top tier of what we track. The one thing to know: this is a killer deal for productivity work, but the 256GB SSD is tight and the integrated graphics won't do you any favors for gaming.

If you're looking for a gaming laptop or anything with serious graphics muscle, this isn't it. Go get something with a dedicated GPU instead. And if you need more than 256GB of local storage, you'll either need to budget for an external drive or look at a model with a bigger SSD. The soldered RAM also means this is a dead end for future upgrades, so if you think you'll need 64GB someday, move along.

Buy it. The Dell Latitude 7420 refurb is one of the best value propositions we've seen in the business laptop space. The 32GB of RAM alone makes it a standout, and owners confirm the condition is consistently excellent. Just know you're getting a small SSD and integrated graphics, so plan on cloud storage or an external drive, and don't expect to game on it. For productivity, engineering work, or as a daily driver, this is a no-brainer at the low end of the price range.
