The TCL A300W delivers an art-like design that's second to none, right down to the matte canvas look and flush mount. Its picture quality won't win awards, but if you want your TV to disappear when off, this is the one.

We were surprised by how snappy the smart platform is. Google TV zips along with zero lag, and the 120Hz panel with FreeSync Premium ate up our gaming benchmarks, landing in the top 15% for gaming among all TVs. The audio is respectable for a 20W setup too, with clear dialogue. The letdown is picture quality: our database puts it in the bottom third for display and overall image fidelity. The edge-lit QLED backlight can't do deep blacks, and dark scenes wash out. For casual streaming it's totally watchable, but if you're upgrading from an older mid-range set you might not feel the 'wow' you'd get from a similarly priced mini-LED.

The Sony Bravia 5 and LG C5 OLED are in a different league for picture quality, the LG's blacks are perfect and the Sony mini-LED is dazzlingly bright, but those are traditional glossy TVs that scream 'look at me.' This TCL is the opposite: it blends into your home. If you pick the C5 or Bravia 5, you'll get a movie powerhouse but lose the decoration trick. Samsung's The Frame is the real rival, but the TCL's matte finish and slimmer profile often feel more convincing as art. For design-first living rooms, the TCL walks a very specific, very stylish line that the competition doesn't quite match.

The price is all over the place online, we're talking a spread from about $560 to over $2,400, which makes zero sense. Ignore the wild numbers. The real deal is at Best Buy, where it often lands under $800. For that money, the design and art-mode features easily justify themselves. You're paying a premium for the lifestyle angle, but it's one of the few frame TVs that doesn't feel like a compromise on the smart and gaming fronts.

The TCL NXTVISION 55A300W is the frame TV that finally gets the art part right. That ultra-matte screen and magnetic light wood frame make it look so much like a canvas that you'll forget it's a television, and the flush mount gets it so tight to the wall that the illusion holds even from the side. It's not the best 4K picture you can buy, not even close, but it might be the most design-forward display we've ever tested, and for a lot of people that's going to matter more than perfect contrast.

If you're a home theater fanatic who obsesses over black levels and HDR brightness, skip this. The edge-lit panel just can't compete. Go get an LG C5 OLED or a Sony Bravia 5 mini-LED for a real cinematic experience.
