A workstation powerhouse with a mid-life-crisis GPU. Incredible for creators, just okay for gamers.

The thing that surprised us most is how well this machine handles everything except the GPU. The Core Ultra 9 285 sits in the 93rd percentile in our database, which means it chews through video renders and code compiles like they're nothing. The 64GB of RAM is a standout, landing in the 94th percentile. But then you hit the RTX 4060. It's a solid 1080p gaming card, sure, but at the 64th percentile, it's the bottleneck in an otherwise top-tier system. It feels like putting regular fuel in a sports car. It'll go, but you know it's capable of more. The 8TB NVMe drive is the absolute best we've seen, though, sitting at the very top of the charts. You won't run out of space for your projects anytime soon.

The Dell's biggest headache comes from the HP OMEN GT22-3080 and the Lenovo Legion 34IAS10. The HP and Lenovo will typically give you a much stronger GPU for a similar price, making them the clear winners for pure gaming. The ASUS ROG GM700TZ is another strong contender if you want more gamer-focused aesthetics and cooling. But where the Dell wins is in that raw, professional CPU and RAM combo. It's a workstation that can game, while the others are gaming PCs that can work. If your day job involves rendering or heavy data analysis, the Dell is the smarter pick.

With a price spread from $1599 to $2699, you absolutely need to shop around. The lower end of that range is a solid deal for a workstation with this much RAM and storage. At the high end, you're getting fleeced. For the best value, look for the configuration with the RTX 4060 and 2TB or 8TB SSD from the vendor offering it at the $1599 mark. That's a lot of machine for the money, even if the GPU is just okay.

The Dell Tower Plus EBT2250 is a bit of a sleeper hit. On paper, it looks like Dell threw a mid-range gaming GPU into a serious workstation and called it a day. But that combo is exactly what makes it so good for a specific person: the creative pro who needs raw CPU power and tons of RAM, but still wants to game after hours. The Intel Core Ultra 9 285 is an absolute monster for multi-threaded work, and with 64GB of DDR5, you can throw almost anything at it without a stutter. Just don't expect it to be a dedicated 4K gaming beast out of the box.

If you're looking for a pure gaming rig, this isn't it. Go get an HP OMEN or Lenovo Legion with at least an RTX 4070 Super instead. You'll get way more frames per dollar and won't be paying a premium for a workstation CPU and RAM you don't need.

Buy this if your primary focus is creative work, software development, or heavy multitasking, and gaming is a secondary hobby. The CPU and RAM are genuinely impressive and will keep you productive for years. If gaming is your main thing, skip this configuration. You can get a much better GPU for the same money elsewhere. But for the right person, this Dell is a quiet, powerful, and surprisingly well-rounded machine.
