Performance
What surprised us most is how well the stabilization holds up. Olympus claimed 4 stops back in the day, and in our testing, it genuinely delivers. You can hand-hold shots at shutter speeds that would be a blurry mess on other cameras. The 8.5fps burst is solid for the price, and the 81-point AF system is snappy in good light. But that 16MP sensor shows its age. It's in the bottom 10th percentile of our database, and you'll see noise creep in fast once the sun goes down. The 2.3M-dot EVF is a standout though, one of the best on the market for a camera in this class.

vs Competition
The E-M10 Mark II's biggest rival is its own successor, the Mark IV, which finally adds 4K and a 20MP sensor but costs significantly more. If video matters at all, skip this and look at a used Panasonic LUMIX G85, which gives you 4K and similar stabilization in a weather-sealed body. Compared to a modern Sony a6100, the Sony's autofocus and sensor are lightyears ahead, but its kit lens stabilization is a joke next to Olympus's in-body system. It's a trade-off between a modern sensor and a more enjoyable shooting experience.

Overview
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II is the camera you buy when you're tired of your phone but don't want to haul a full-frame brick everywhere. It's tiny, it's fun, and that 5-axis stabilization is the real deal. The one thing to know? This little guy punches way above its weight for stills, but it's firmly stuck in the past for video. If you can live without 4K, you'll find one of the most enjoyable entry-level mirrorless cameras ever made.
Common Questions
Q: Does this camera shoot 4K video?
Nope. It's capped at 1080p. If you need 4K, this isn't your camera. Look at a used Panasonic G85 or the newer E-M10 Mark IV instead.
Q: Is the E-M10 Mark II good for beginners?
Yes and no. The auto mode works fine, but the menus are dense. If you're willing to learn, it's a great teacher. If you want a simple point-and-shoot experience, a modern phone will be less frustrating.
Q: Is the body weather sealed?
No, despite some confusing marketing. The E-M10 Mark II is not weather sealed. Don't take it out in the rain without protection.
Who Should Skip This
If you're looking for a modern hybrid shooter for video or need clean high-ISO performance, this isn't it. Go get a used Sony a6100 or a Panasonic G85 instead. The 16MP sensor will just frustrate you in low light.
Verdict
Get the E-M10 Mark II if you want a pure, fun stills camera that won't weigh you down. The stabilization and viewfinder are addictive, and the image quality is great in decent light. Just know you're buying a 1080p time capsule. For the right price, it's a classic that still holds up.
