Performance
The 13.5mm drivers pump out a bass-heavy sound that's genuinely enjoyable for casual listening. It's not accurate or detailed, but it's warm and energetic, landing in the 65th percentile for sound, which is a win at this price. What surprised us most is the comfort. These things are tiny, weigh nothing, and sit in your ears so well they hit the 95th percentile in our database. You can almost forget you're wearing them, which is more than we can say for a lot of $200 buds.

vs Competition
If you want to stick with a wire, the Anker Soundcore V20i gives you a much better build and a more balanced sound for just a little more cash. The JLab GO POP ANC are the obvious wireless alternative, adding active noise canceling and true wireless freedom for a budget price, though you'll sacrifice that endless wired reliability. The Sony's main edge is pure simplicity and a comfort level that's hard to beat.

Value & Pricing
The price on these is all over the map, from $8 to a laughable $2980 from some third-party seller. Ignore the scalpers. If you can snag these for around $10, they're a steal for a backup pair or gym beaters. They score a 60 in our budget metric, which feels right. You're not getting ripped off, but you're also not getting a hidden gem that punches way above its weight.

Overview
The Sony MDRE9LP/BLU is a relic that somehow still works. These are dead-simple wired earbuds in a world of wireless everything, and honestly, that's their biggest strength. You plug them in, they play music, and you don't have to charge them. The one thing to know is that for under ten bucks, you're getting a shockingly comfortable fit and a sound signature that's way more fun than it has any right to be. Just don't expect them to survive a trip through the washing machine.
Common Questions
Q: Do these have a microphone for calls?
Yes, but it's awful. Our call quality score is a 30 out of 100, so your voice will sound muffled and distant. Use them for music, not meetings.
Q: Are these good for working out?
For the price, sure. They're so light you won't notice them, and if you destroy them with sweat, you're only out a few bucks. Just know the cable can get annoying and they have zero water resistance rating.
Q: How long is the cable?
It's a standard length, around 1.2 meters, which is perfect for a phone in your pocket but might be a stretch for a desktop PC without an extension.
Who Should Skip This
If you need something durable or plan to take a lot of calls, this isn't it. The build quality is in the 35th percentile, and the mic is even worse. Go get the Anker Soundcore V20i instead. It's still wired and affordable but built to last longer than a season.
Verdict
Buy these if you need a disposable pair of headphones that feel like nothing in your ears and sound decent enough. They're the perfect emergency stash for your bag, your desk drawer, or for falling asleep to a podcast. Don't buy them for important calls or if you're rough on your gear. For the price of a sandwich, you get a reliable, no-fuss audio companion that won't make you cry if you lose them.
