Nacon RIG400HXW

The RIG 400HXW is the comfiest budget gaming headset we've tested, with a mic that punches way above its price. Just don't buy it for music.

The 40mm drivers sit at the 66th percentile for sound, which means they're decent but not going to blow anyone away. The mic is the real surprise here, landing in the 96th percentile. That's best-in-class territory for a headset this cheap. The noise-cancelling boom mic picks up your voice clearly and you can yank it out entirely when you're flying solo. Battery life is a non-issue since it's wired, but the connectivity score is middling because you're stuck with a 3.5mm jack. No USB, no wireless, no fancy dongle.

The RIG 400HXW goes up against wireless options like the JBL Tune 670NC and Sony WH-CH720N, but those cost significantly more and target a different buyer. If you want wireless freedom and better music sound, the Sony is the better pick. The TOZO HT3 is another budget wireless option worth a look. But if you're plugging into a PS5 controller and just want something comfortable with a great mic, the RIG 400HXW undercuts them all on price while beating most on mic quality.

At 35 USD on Amazon, this is a no-brainer for console gamers on a budget. European buyers should shop around though, prices swing from EUR 30 to EUR 43 across DE, ES, FR, and IT. The German listing is the cheapest at EUR 30, so grab it there if you can. For the comfort and mic quality you're getting, it's hard to complain about the price.

The Nacon RIG 400HXW is a budget gaming headset that nails the one thing most cheap headsets get wrong: comfort. Owners rave about how light and breathable these feel, especially if you wear glasses. The sound is fine for gaming, but don't expect a music-listening marvel. At around 35 USD, it's a solid wired pick for console players who want something that won't crush their skull during long sessions.

If you're looking for a headset to double as your main music headphones, this isn't it. The sound is tuned for gaming and falls flat for music. Go grab the Sony WH-CH720N or JBL Tune 670NC instead if you want something that sounds good with both games and tunes. PC gamers should also look elsewhere, one owner called the PC sound quality trash and we're not arguing.

Buy it if you're a console gamer who wants a comfortable, reliable wired headset with a surprisingly good mic. The comfort alone makes it worth the 35 USD, especially if you wear glasses. Just don't expect audiophile-grade sound or premium build materials. For the price, it's a solid deal.
