MSI Cubi 5 CUBI512M286 Black 2024

A silent, space-saving home office champ that handles real work beautifully. Just don't even think about gaming on it.

The 10-core Core i5-1235U handles spreadsheets, video calls, and a frankly irresponsible number of browser tabs without breaking a sweat. What surprised us is how well the integrated Iris Xe graphics keep up with basic photo editing and 4K video playback. It's not a speed demon, but for a chip sipping power from a 65W brick, the responsiveness is genuinely impressive. Just don't ask it to render 3D models or play modern games, because that's a one-way ticket to slideshow city.

The Cubi 5's real competition isn't hulking gaming towers like the HP OMEN or Lenovo Legion. It's other mini PCs like the Apple Mac Studio. The Mac Studio M4 Max will run circles around the Cubi in raw performance, but it also costs several times more and locks you into macOS. For a Windows user who just needs a reliable office machine, the Cubi 5 is the smarter, cheaper choice. If you need serious GPU power, skip both and look at a small form factor gaming PC instead.

Pricing is a wild west show, with a spread from $730 to an absurd $29,850 across vendors. Ignore the crazy high numbers, they're clearly nonsense. At the real-world price around $730, this is a solid deal for a compact, capable office PC. Just make sure you're buying from a reputable store and not a scalper who thinks they're selling a gold-plated server.

The MSI Cubi 5 is a tiny desktop that knows exactly what it is, and that's refreshing. It's not trying to be a gaming rig or a workstation replacement. It's a quiet, competent little box for everyday tasks, and it nails that job. The one thing to know? It's a home office hero with triple-monitor support that won't clutter your desk or your brain.

If you're looking for a machine that can handle even light gaming or creative work like video editing, this isn't it. Go get a small form factor PC with a dedicated GPU instead. And if you're the type who likes to tinker and upgrade components over time, the soldered RAM will drive you nuts. Look at a modular mini-ITX build for that kind of flexibility.

The MSI Cubi 5 is a purpose-built machine that excels at being invisible. It's the PC you forget is there until you realize your desk is clean and your work is done. If your daily grind is email, Office, and web apps, this is a fantastic, no-drama solution. Buy it for the triple-monitor support and the silence, not for bragging rights.
