Panasonic Lumix G H-H025K 25mm
The f/1.7 maximum aperture and 50mm equivalent focal length deliver shallow depth of field and solid low-light performance in a 125g body. Its stepping AF motor enables quiet, smooth focusing for video, while the 46mm filter thread keeps accessory costs low. This lens suits Micro Four Thirds shooters focused on portraits and street photography who want a fast normal prime without the bulk.

Performance
What surprised us most is how good the bokeh is for a lens this cheap. The 7-blade rounded diaphragm and f/1.7 aperture put it in the 92nd percentile for bokeh, which is wild for a sub-$200 lens. Autofocus is fine but not stellar, sitting right around average. The stepping motor is quiet enough for video, but it's not going to win any speed races. Optical quality is a mixed bag, middle of the pack overall, but the center sharpness wide open is more than usable for portraits.

vs Competition
Against the Sigma Contemporary 18-50mm f/2.8, the Panasonic gives up zoom flexibility but wins on aperture and price. The Viltrox AF 13mm F1.4 is a different beast entirely, ultra wide and more expensive, so it's not really a direct competitor. The Sony E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS is a zoom with stabilization, but it's slower and pricier. If you want a fast normal prime for MFT, the Panasonic is the clear choice. The 7Artisans LITE AF35mm F1.8 is cheaper but has worse autofocus and build quality.

Value & Pricing
At $198 USD, this is a no-brainer. You're getting a bright prime with excellent build quality and bokeh that competes with lenses costing three times as much. The only reason to hesitate is if you already have a 25mm prime, and even then, this is probably better than what you've got.

Overview
The Panasonic G 25mm f/1.7 is the lens that makes Micro Four Thirds make sense. It's tiny, cheap, and gives you a classic 50mm equivalent with a bright f/1.7 aperture. If you own an MFT camera and don't have this, you're doing it wrong. The one thing to know: this is the best value prime in the system, bar none.
Common Questions
Q: Is this lens good for portraits?
Yes, it's great for portraits. The 50mm equivalent focal length and f/1.7 aperture give you nice subject separation and flattering compression. The bokeh is surprisingly good for the price.
Q: Does it work on Olympus cameras?
Yep, it's a Micro Four Thirds lens, so it works on any MFT body from Panasonic, Olympus, or OM System. Autofocus works fine across brands.
Q: Is it weather sealed?
No, it's not weather sealed. If you shoot in rain or dust, you'll want to be careful or look at something like the Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4 II, which is sealed but costs a lot more.
Who Should Skip This
If you need weather sealing or optical stabilization, this isn't it. Go get the Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4 II instead, it's sealed and sharper, but you'll pay triple the price. Landscape shooters should also look elsewhere, this lens is weakest there.
Verdict
Buy it. The Panasonic G 25mm f/1.7 is the lens every Micro Four Thirds shooter should own. It's fast, sharp enough, and so cheap that skipping it is almost irresponsible. Unless you need weather sealing or stabilization, this is the default choice for a normal prime on MFT.
