Apple MacBook Pro 14.2" M4 Pro Silver 2024

The M4 Pro MacBook Pro is a silent, stupidly fast workhorse with a screen that'll spoil you for anything else. Skip it only if you need a gaming GPU or can't stomach the price of that 4TB SSD.

What surprised us most is how this thing stays whisper-quiet even when you're throwing everything at it. In our database, the M4 Pro's CPU sits in the 90th percentile, making it a standout for raw processing grunt. The integrated 16-core GPU is solid for creative apps and lands well above average, but it's not going to replace a dedicated gaming laptop. The real star is the 4TB SSD, which is in the 99th percentile for storage. That's best-in-class territory. You can basically carry your entire life's work around without an external drive dangling off the side.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is the obvious alternative if you want actual gaming chops and a dedicated GPU, but you'll sacrifice that gorgeous Mini-LED screen and the silent operation. The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is a desktop replacement monster that will smoke this Mac in raw GPU tasks, but it's a brick by comparison. If you're deep in the Apple ecosystem and your main gig is photo, video, or development, the MacBook Pro is the clear winner. The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition is a sleeker, more portable option for general productivity, but it can't touch the M4 Pro's sustained performance.

With a price spread from $3199 to $4347 across vendors, you absolutely need to shop around. The best deal we're seeing is at B&H, and at that lower end, this config is a serious investment that pays off if you need the 4TB drive. If you don't need that much onboard storage, you're paying a huge premium for convenience. For the right creative pro, it's worth every penny. For everyone else, it's overkill.

The M4 Pro MacBook Pro is the laptop you buy when you're done messing around. This 14-inch configuration with 24GB of RAM and a massive 4TB SSD is an absolute beast for creative work, research, and heavy multitasking. The one thing to know? It's so fast and quiet that it makes older Intel Macs feel like they belong in a museum. The screen is stunning, the battery lasts, and it handles photo and video editing without breaking a sweat. Just don't expect it to be a gaming rig, and know that a few ports have some sneaky speed limits.

If you're looking for a gaming laptop, this isn't it. The integrated GPU just can't keep up with dedicated graphics chips in the ASUS Zephyrus or Lenovo Legion lines. Go get one of those instead and enjoy high frame rates. Also, if you don't absolutely need 4TB of internal storage, save a ton of cash and get a smaller SSD config.

This is the "sweet spot" MacBook Pro for creative professionals who need massive local storage and top-tier CPU performance. It's a no-compromise machine for editing, coding, and multitasking that will stay relevant for years. Just be aware of the slow SD reader and the lack of Wi-Fi 7. If you can live with those quirks, this is the best laptop Apple makes for people who do real work.
