Wat ons echt verraste was hoe bruikbaar de beelden blijven bij belachelijk hoge ISO-waardes. We hebben in onze database camera's met meer megapixels die er bij ISO 12800 uitzien als een impressionistisch schilderij. De a7S III levert dan nog steeds strakke, bruikbare 4K-beelden af. De 759-punts autofocus is een van de beste op de markt en blijft hardnekkig op ogen plakken, zelfs in situaties waar andere camera's gaan jagen. De Sony a7S III is nog steeds de koning van het filmen in het donker. Punt. Deze camera is gebouwd voor één ding: de schoonste, bruikbaarste beelden uit een full-frame sensor persen als het licht bijna op is. De 12.1MP sensor klinkt op papier als een downgrade, maar dat is precies de truc. Die enorme pixels zuigen licht op als een spons en leveren video die je van een camera in deze prijsklasse gewoon niet verwacht. Het is een gespecialiseerd beest, en als video jouw ding is, is dit 'm.

Q: Is de 12 megapixel sensor genoeg voor fotografie?
Voor online gebruik en afdrukken tot A4-formaat is het prima. Maar als je graag flink cropt in je foto's of grote prints maakt, ga dan voor een camera met meer megapixels zoals de Sony a7 IV. Dit is echt een videocamera die ook foto's kan maken, niet andersom.
Q: Welke geheugenkaarten heb ik absoluut nodig voor de hoogste videokwaliteit?
Voor 4K 120p en All-Intra codecs heb je een CFexpress Type A kaart nodig. Ja, ze zijn duur. Een snelle V90 SD-kaart werkt voor de meeste andere formaten, maar bijten in de zure appel voor een CFexpress-kaart is het waard als je het maximale uit de camera wilt halen.
