The superzoom field has gotten crowded and seriously good. The Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 for APS-C E-mount is sharper, focuses faster, and reaches further on the telephoto end while costing less. If you are on a full-frame Nikon Z body, the Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR is in a different league optically, though it is pricier. Even the Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS for crop-sensor shooters delivers better image quality across the shared range. The Sony 24-240mm's only remaining advantage is its full-frame coverage and used market availability, but that is not enough to keep it in the top five.

Anyone who values sharpness at the long end or needs reliable autofocus for moving subjects. Video shooters will hate the loud, hunting AF motor. If you shoot on an APS-C Sony body, the Tamron 18-300mm is a flat-out better buy. Full-frame shooters should save up for the Nikon Z 28-400mm or a two-lens kit that will embarrass this lens on image quality.
Verdict
The Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS once held a spot as a reasonable all-in-one travel lens, but the competition has sprinted past it. A 62 out of 100 is a tough score, and it reflects a lens that now feels dated and optically compromised. Newer superzooms from Tamron and Nikon offer sharper results and faster autofocus, often in lighter packages. Unless you find this lens at a steep discount on the used market, it is hard to recommend when the alternatives are this much better.
