MSI Codex Z2 B8NVM-441US Black

Great specs, questionable reliability. The Codex Z2 is a fast machine with a trust problem.

The RAM situation is the real star here. 32GB of DDR5 lands in the 89th percentile, which means this thing multitasks like a champ. The RTX 5060 Ti with 8GB of VRAM sits at the 76th percentile, so it's above average but not top-tier. You'll cruise through most games at high settings, but that 8GB VRAM ceiling will start to pinch in a year or two on texture-heavy titles. The Ryzen 7 8700F is fine, just not exciting. What surprised us? The storage combo. A 1TB NVMe SSD paired with a 1TB HDD feels like a throwback. The SSD is fast, but that spinning drive is a weird inclusion in 2025.

Stacked against the HP OMEN GT22-3080 and Lenovo Legion Tower 5a Gen 10, the Codex Z2 holds its own on paper but stumbles on trust. The Legion typically offers better build quality and cooling for similar money, while the OMEN often undercuts MSI on price with comparable specs. The Dell Area-51 is a different beast entirely, more premium and more expensive. If you're cross-shopping, the Legion Tower 5a is the safer bet for long-term reliability. The Codex Z2 wins on RAM capacity out of the box, but that's about it.

Pricing is all over the place at CAD 2,299 to 2,300, and honestly, that's a tough sell. You're paying a premium for the MSI name and a prebuilt convenience tax. The specs are decent, but the reliability concerns make this feel like a gamble at that price. If you can find it on sale, maybe. At full price, you can do better.

The MSI Codex Z2 is a solid mid-tower gaming rig that gets the important stuff right: 32GB of DDR5, a Ryzen 7 8700F, and an RTX 5060 Ti. It's not going to blow anyone's socks off, but it's a dependable 1080p and 1440p machine that skips the flashy nonsense. The one thing to know? You're getting a well-rounded performer with a reliability score that gives us pause.

If you're looking for a compact or quiet machine, this isn't it. The compact score is one of the worst we've seen, and that mid-tower footprint is going to dominate your desk. Go grab a smaller form factor build or a laptop instead. And if long-term reliability is your top priority, the Lenovo Legion Tower 5a Gen 10 is the safer play.

The MSI Codex Z2 is a capable gaming PC that's held back by reliability concerns and a price that doesn't quite justify the risk. If you're dead set on MSI and find a good deal, it'll serve you well for 1080p and 1440p gaming. But for most people, the Lenovo Legion Tower 5a Gen 10 is the smarter buy. We can't give this a full-throated recommendation when the trust score is this shaky.
